Teaching Experience

Teaching Statement
Let’s learn from each other!
My classroom environment celebrates diversity and encourages open communication. I collect weekly feed-back from students that update me on their progress, understanding, and any problems they may be having. I encourage a diversity of ideas, opinions, and perspectives by allowing the students to discuss tough concepts in small groups and as a class. I like to build a sense of community in my classrooms by facilitating group work where the groups change every time and playing music curated by ever individual in the class. I encourage questions and often collect index cards at the end of class with their questions that I can answer the next class session. My students should leave my classroom feeling excited about science and with stronger science communication skills.
As a botanist, I would like to one day teach on topics that include: General Botany, Plant Ecology, Plant Systematics, Plant hydrology, Adaptations and Function of Plant Groups, and Environmentalist Pursuits.
